China's Official 2019 Holiday Calendar Finally Announced!

The Beijingers theBeijinger 2019-04-02

After weeks of educated guesses, the official state-sanctioned holiday calendar for 2019 has been officially announced, and at least a couple of them were exactly spot on. The website henan.people.cn released the calendar late evening on Wednesday, Nov 28.

Here's a breakdown:

New Year's Day 2019: New Year's is three-day holiday starting on Dec 30 and through to Jan 1, back to work on Wednesday. Saturday, Dec 29 is a make-up day.

Spring Festival/Chinese New Year: Next year, the Spring Festival falls on Tuesday, Feb 5. The usual seven-day holiday runs from Monday, Feb 4 to Sunday, Feb 10. Saturday, Feb 2 and Sunday, Feb 3 are both make-up days (meaning you'll work seven days straight before the holidays).

Qing Ming Festival: The three-day Tomb Sweeping Fest kicks off on Friday, Apr 5 and finishes Sunday, April 7. No make-up days.

May Labor Day: When Labor Day eventually arrives, you'll really have earned it; it is preceded with a full seven days of work, including the two make-up days of Saturday, Apr 27 and Sunday, Apr 28. The three-day May holiday runs from Monday, Apr 29 to Wednesday, May 1.

Dragon Boat Festival: This three-day festival is effectively reduced to one day off Friday, Jun 7 as the following two days fall on the weekend anyway. No make-up days.

Mid-Autumn Festival: The same situation applies to the 2019 Mid-Autumn Festival: the three-day holiday begins on Friday, Sep 13 and ends Sunday, Sep 15. No make-up days.

October National Day: The second Golden Week of 2019 runs from Tuesday, Oct 1 from Monday, Oct 7 for a total of seven days off. Two make-up days: Saturday, Sep 29 and Saturday, Oct 12 (meaning you'll work six days straight both the week before the holiday and the week after).
